Bank of England gets new green mandate to aid net zero carbon goal

The cross-party Environmental Audit Committee welcomed the decision but urged Treasury to go further

The Bank of England has a duty to join the government’s net zero carbon ambition under a new monetary policy which places climate action at its core.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak on Wednesday updated the remit of the Bank’s monetary policy committee to reflect the importance of environmental sustainability and the UK’s transition to net zero emissions within its 2% inflation target.
